You Haven’t Been to the Dentist in Over a Year

The FDA recommends annual dental visits for healthy adults with no outstanding dental issues. If you haven’t been to the dentist in over a year, you could have dental issues that need to be diagnosed and resolved before they get worse.

If you haven’t been to the dentist in several years, don’t put it off any longer. Cavities, gum issues and other dental issues need to be addressed immediately.

Your Gums Are Puffy/Prone to Bleeding

If you’ve noticed that your gums are redder, puffier and bleed more easily than usual, you need to go to the dentist.

Bleeding is a sign of gingivitis, which can lead to periodontal disease and eventual tooth loss. Red, puffy gums can signal gingivitis, periodontal disease, lack of adequate nutrients, or a host of other issues that need to be checked by a dentist.

Your Teeth Are Sensitive to Hot and Cold

Your tooth root is protected by enamel and cementum. Beneath your tooth’s enamel and cementum is dentin, which contains tiny tubes of fluid that react painfully to exposure to cold or hot. If your tooth’s enamel and cementum are worn away or your gums have receded, your tooth’s dentin is exposed, causing sensitivity to pain.

Tooth sensitivity could signal problems with gum recession or enamel erosion. Both of these problems necessitate a visit to the dentist.
